Currently, we de-bud our lavender by hand and sift it threw multiple screens to remove dust that naturally accumulates from the stems. Bill located an old 2b Ferrell Clipper Seeder that has a fanning mill and screens. Farmers used Seeders to screen their seeds to plant the next season, but now most farmers purchase new seeds every year. We can use the screens to sift our lavender buds and the fan will blow and remove dust.
Bill has been renovating the Clipper and we are gong to share the process. Once completed, our customers will be able to see demonstrations and help with the fanning.
Clipper right after we purchased it from an auction:
do you have this seed sorter up and running yet? I would love to know how many screens you are using and what sizes they are for what variety of lavender. Thanks so much in advance for any information you can share.
